Channel
Which Roblox build Goldstrap downloads, and what to do when the usual one is not what you want.
Roblox channels
Settings → Channel
Roblox publishes builds per channel. production (also called live) is the normal one. Other channels exist for testing and for specific devices, and some of them are private to an account.
Type a channel name and Goldstrap looks it up before you save, showing the version and when it was published. A channel that does not exist, or that your account cannot see, is reported instead of being saved.
| Change mode | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Automatic | Follow the channel in a launch link without asking. |
| Prompt | Ask first, and warn when the channel is behind production. |
| Ignore | Keep the channel you set, whatever the link says. |
A launch link can carry its own channel (channel:…). What happens then depends on the mode above, so a link from a friend cannot quietly move you to another build unless you allow it.
Private channels
Private channels need a channel token from Roblox, which needs cookie access. With it on, Goldstrap fetches the token for the account that is signed in and uses it for that launch only.
Without it, a private channel either fails to resolve or falls back to production, depending on the error Roblox returns.
Roblox domain
Settings → Channel → Roblox domain
Some setups need a domain other than roblox.com — a regional domain, or a private mirror. Whatever you enter has to be a real domain name; a malformed value is refused, and a value that ends up unreadable in the settings file falls back to roblox.com rather than being used blindly.
The domain decides where Goldstrap sends every request, including the one that carries your cookie if you enabled it. Only change it if you know why.
Static directory
Settings → Channel → Static directory
Normally every Roblox version gets its own folder under Versions, so you can keep more than one and roll back by hand. A static directory instead keeps a single folder, which uses less disk space and suits other tools that expect one fixed path.
Switching either way forces a fresh download of the client, because the existing folder layout no longer matches.
Update checks
Settings → Channel → Check for updates
Lets Goldstrap ask GitHub for a newer release at launch. Turn it off if you update by hand; the version is still on the About page.
Force reinstall
Settings → Channel → Force reinstall
Marks the client for a clean download on the next launch: the current version folder is deleted and every package is fetched again. Use it when the client crashes on startup after an update, when a mod went wrong, or when the version on disk disagrees with the manifest.
Your settings, mods and Fast Flags are not affected — only the Roblox client files.
